How Agile Helped Me Fall Back in Love with Design (And Stop Drowning in Deadlines)

Have you ever had a project so big, so messy, that you didn’t know where to start?
That was me. A Designer. Staring at branding projects that felt like climbing Everest with a pencil.

But then something shifted.

When I worked at Fidelity, I was introduced to Agile. At first, I thought, “This is for engineers, developers, not visual designers like me.” But I gave it a shot. And what happened?
Game. Changer.

What Agile Taught Me About Design

Instead of seeing a branding project as one big, scary task, Agile helped me break it down:
🎯 Week 1: Sketch ideas
🎯 Week 2: Build the story and strategy
🎯 Week 3: Test logo concepts

Suddenly, I wasn’t overwhelmed anymore. I was focused. Every sprint gave me a small win.
It reminded me of James Clear’s idea in “Atomic Habits” & that progress happens step by step, not overnight.

And like Austin Kleon says in “Show Your Work,” I learned to share my messy first drafts early, get feedback, and actually enjoy the process.

The Real Win: Loving the Journey

Before Agile, I used to burn out trying to finish everything at once.
Now, I celebrate when I finish something.
And the best part? I know exactly what’s coming next. No more guessing. No more panic.

It feels like moving sticky notes from “Doing” to “Done.”
(Spoiler: it’s surprisingly satisfying.)

If You’re a Designer Feeling Stuck...

💡 Start small. Break your project into pieces.
💡 Share your drafts, even if they feel raw.
💡 Celebrate every step forward.

Agile didn’t make me less creative & it gave my creativity room to breathe.

If you’ve ever felt buried under your own ideas, maybe it’s time to work a little more like an Agile designer.
Who knows? You might actually enjoy your to-do list.
